JUDY CLARK
About - Judy Clark
Artist's Statement
I am an artist living in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada.
It is an idyllic setting for enhancing creativity.
I have a grand passion for drawing and painting people. I love bringing their portraits to life and telling stories about their daily experiences. While people are my preferred subjects, I also find inspiration in the beauty of nature. I find there is an underlying story to be told in many of my paintings of both people and scenes.
When I retired from my "day job", I devoted time to my love of art and have been actively developing my skills and art practice ever since.
Artist Profile
Judy has always been interested in art. After graduating from Humber College in business, she pursued a career in commercial banking. She continued painting and attending art classes, like those offered at the Toronto School of Art as well as numerous workshops with various artists (like Brian Atyeo). After retiring in 2007, she was able to focus on her art. In 2010, she moved from Toronto to Prince Edward County. She has explored a number of different mediums and continues to work in watercolour, oil, oil with cold wax and in acrylic. She attended art classes at Loyalist College (claudia jean mccabe, Andrew Sookrah) as well as many workshops offered by professional artists (Robert Liberace, Sheila Davis).
For five years, she ran the Life Drawing Program at the Baxter Arts Centre in Bloomfield and arranged shows for the work produced by the artists. At live modelling sessions, she sketched with oil on Yupo paper. These quick studies produced fresh and vibrant snapshots of the models.
With the onset of Covid, she switched to using graphite and watercolour to sketch and paint portraits with a free zoom group run by Nora MacPhail.
In 2020, she became the President of East Central Ontario Art Association (ECOAA.ca), providing leadership to bring the 60 year old club through the Covid years. She organized plein air events, art retreats, art exhibitions and juried shows. She uses Mailchimp and learned how to use Zoom to communicate with memebers.
In 2023, she took over Nora MacPhail's group of Portrait Pals on Zoom and began hosting free Sunday afternoon sessions to practice drawing and painting portraits.
Recently, she has been exploring abstracted landscapes by taking a class with Paul Bailey with Winslow Art Centre.
There will be 10 of her landscape pieces on display at Gallery 121 from July 15 to August 23, 2025 at their summer show in Belleville, Ontario where she will be one of three guest artists.
